Sarah Watson 1859 is a reproduction of a mid 19th century cross stitch sampler from the private collection of Whilst Iris Naps Designs, originally stitched in the year Charles Darwin first published his 'On the Origin of Species'.

The stitch count is 170 x 93 and our model is stitched using 1 strand floss over 2 linen threads on 36ct Weeks Dye Works 'Parchment'.  We have used Weeks Dye Works threads for our reproduction but we also include a DMC conversion in our PDF downloads.  The design area on 36ct fabric measures 9 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches (24.3 x 13.3cm).

The pattern is entirely comprised of cross stitch and so is suitable for stitching on either linen or Aida.  The downloads include both a symbol only and colour version of the chart along with a sizing guide for a variety of fabric counts.  Upon purchase you will have access to both A4 (UK) and letter (US) formats to suit your local default paper size.

Please note our PDFs are not automatically e-mailed to you as attachments as they can be large files and we offer at least 2 different print versions.  Instead you can download immediately after payment from the webpage you are returned to or follow the "Download Files" link from the Order Confirmation e-mail which is highlighted in blue.

We cannot offer returns, exchanges or cancellations but please do contact us if you have any problems at all with an order.

    The perfect sampler for beginners

Posted by Anne Howard on 29th Jun 2021

If you want to try your first sampler this is a perfect one to begin. All cross stitch over two so it can easily be worked on any fabric. The colors are beautiful and will keep a new sampler stitcher engaged and excited to see it finished. It is small so it goes quickly. All of these charts are superbly done. I have now completed two of her charts and and I am anxious to do more.
